Fees

December 1 through February 28

Dog licenses are required for all dogs over four months of age and are available December 1 through February 28 without penalty. License fees are $22 for male or female dogs that are not surgically sterilized and $11 for a surgically sterilized dog.

March 1 through November 30

Beginning March 1 all dog licenses are $44 (non-surgically sterilized dogs) or $22 (surgically sterilized dogs.) Pups that turn four months old after March 1 are eligible for a $22 or $11 license if purchased within a seven-day period of becoming four months. This seven-day period also applies if a dog is purchased or becomes a resident of Michigan anytime during the year.

Required Documents

A current rabies vaccination certificate is required to purchase a license, to obtain a license you must submit proof that you dog was surgically sterilized, you can do this by sending a veterinarian's certificate of sterilization to the Gratiot County Treasurer's Office or the Gratiot County Animal Control Department when purchasing your license.

Licenses can only be purchased at the Gratiot County Treasurer's Office and the Gratiot County Animal Control Office. Licenses are also available through the mail. You must submit your check or money order, rabies vaccination certificate, proof of sterilization (if applicable) and prepared application (if previously licensed) to:

Lost License Tags

A lost license tag may be replaced at the Gratiot County Animal Control Office for a $0.50 fee when you present the original copy of the license.
